Nodal Power Systems was founded by experienced energy developers, operators, and technology leaders who have built, financed, and operated power generation projects across the western United States.
Nodal Power Systems develops, owns, and operates power generation projects in conjunction with related energy and data center infrastructure — currently developing landfill gas-to-energy, natural gas, and microgrid projects, with anticipated expansion into solar, battery storage, gas storage, and transmission.
Our experience spans the full project lifecycle: site origination, engineering, financing, construction, commissioning, and long-term operations. We were incorporated in Delaware in 2021, building on the foundational work of Teho Inc., co-founded in 2017 by Matthew Jones and Daniel Sechrest, which first commercialized natural gas microgrids and then expanded into landfill gas-to-energy.
Bryan Black has served as Chief Executive Officer and as a member of the Board of Directors of Nodal Power Systems since January 2022. He also currently serves as Vice President of Business Development at Deep Fission, Inc., a nuclear energy company focused on developing underground small modular reactor technology for commercial power generation.
Prior to joining Nodal, Bryan served from June 2017 to December 2021 as Director of Market Operations and Chief Operating Officer at Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems (UAMPS), a nonprofit interlocal agency providing wholesale electric energy services to fifty municipal and community-owned utilities across seven western states. There he structured long-term power purchase agreements, coordinated with regulators and utility boards, and guided power trading, power plant operations and maintenance, and wholesale transmission and commodity agreements.
From April 2015 to June 2017, Bryan held various roles at Tenaska Power Services Co., including Real-Time Trader and Mid-Term Trader. He also served as Real-Time Trader at Black Hills Corporation from May 2014 to March 2015.
Daniel Sechrest is a co-founder of Nodal Power Systems and has served as Chief Financial Officer and as a member of the Board of Directors since January 2022. Since March 2025, he has also served as an Energy Advisor for 47G, a Utah nonprofit established to support the aerospace, defense, and cybersecurity ecosystem.
Prior to co-founding Nodal, Daniel held a series of senior roles at Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) from August 2017 to December 2021, serving as Manager of Commercial Deal and Strategic Partnerships, Senior Finance Manager of Government Deals and Strategy, and Strategy Lead of Artificial Intelligence and Mixed Reality Devices. There he developed and defended multi-billion-dollar pricing strategies and supported contract negotiations with federal stakeholders.
From August 2015 to July 2017, Daniel was on the Private Equity Deal Advisory team at KPMG, participating in buy-side and sell-side transaction advisory engagements and providing financial and commercial due diligence services.
Matthew Jones is a co-founder of Nodal Power Systems and has served as Chief Operating Officer and as a member of the Board of Directors since June 2022. As of March 2025, Matt is also co-owner of National Utility Advisors, a utility consulting firm that analyzes and corrects utility billing errors for cities, commercial properties, multi-family communities, manufacturers, and other high-usage clients.
Prior to co-founding Nodal, Matt held roles at GitHub, Inc. (a Microsoft company) from January 2020 to December 2021, serving as Senior Manager of Sales Operations and Senior Program Manager. From July 2016 to January 2020, Matt held several roles at Microsoft Corp. including Pricing Strategy Manager and Business Planner.
From August 2011 to June 2014, Matt held roles at Ernst & Young including Associate and Senior Consultant in Advisory Services. Before co-founding Nodal, Matt co-founded Teho Inc. in 2017, which commercialized the first natural gas microgrid project in 2019 and expanded into landfill gas-to-energy beginning in 2021 — forming the operational foundation of Nodal Power Systems.
